Women’s Health Month: Catch Up On Key Screenings

In honor of Women’s Health Month this May, we’re encouraging the women in our community to be proactive about their health. Read on to learn how screenings can help you stay healthy—and discover our special discounts during this special month.

A heads-up about your health

Some health issues are sneaky. You can have them for a long time, even when you’re feeling fine. Still, they can lead to even more serious problems without treatment. That’s true of conditions like cancer, diabetes and high cholesterol. Screenings help reveal these hidden hazards when they may be easier to manage.

Your primary care provider (PCP) can help you decide what screenings are right for you. For women at average risk, that typically includes:

  • Pap tests (for cervical cancer), starting in your 20s.
  • Mammograms (for breast cancer), starting in your 40s.
  • Colorectal cancer screenings, starting at age 45.
  • DEXA bone density scans (for osteoporosis), starting at age 65.

If your health or family history mean you may be at higher risk for a certain condition, you may need to start screenings sooner or get the tests more often.

At Carson Valley Health, we make it easier to get the screenings you need. Our imaging department offers DEXA scans and 3D mammograms. And our state-of-the-art GI suites mean there’s no need to travel for a high-quality colonoscopy. To schedule your test, ask your PCP for a referral.

Lab screenings: Take advantage of May discounts

Lab screenings include blood tests that your provider can use to keep track of several potential indicators of your health—like your blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid hormone and electrolyte levels.

Your doctor might order a lab test as part of a routine checkup or to help diagnose a health issue. But you can also get tested proactively to optimize your health.

To celebrate Women’s Health Month, we’re offering a package of seven lab screenings at a discounted price.

For $100, you’ll receive a 7-test assessment including:

  • A1C Test: This measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months, helping to assess your risk for diabetes, which can affect heart health.
  • Complete Blood Count: A blood test that measures different parts of your blood, like red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Lipid Panel: A blood test that measures your cholesterol levels, which can be key indicators of heart disease risk. This test requires an 8 hour fast.
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel: A blood test that checks kidney and liver function, blood sugar, and overall chemical balance in your body.
  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone: A blood test that measures thyroid-stimulating hormone levels, helping to assess thyroid function and diagnose disorders.
  • Thyroxine: A test that measures the level of free T4 hormone, helping to evaluate thyroid function and detect thyroid problems.
  • Vitamin D: A blood test that measures vitamin D levels, important for bone health and immune function. Low levels can affect overall health.

These screenings are offered Monday–Friday from 8AM-5:30PM on a walk-in basis. No appointment or physician order is necessary. Insurance will not be billed for these discounted screenings. Payment is required at the time of service. Register at CVH Admitting at our main campus 1107 US Highway 395 N in Gardnerville.

You take care of everyone else, let us take care of you. Don’t wait—get your screening today!
