Leah Walsh, APRN, Brings Urgent Care Experience to Carson Valley

Leah Walsh, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), brings patient-centered care to urgent care in Carson Valley, combining the efficiency of same day care with long-term management experience from gastroenterology and rheumatology. Her care philosophy emphasizes shared decision-making, realistic goal setting, and building trust through approachable, non-judgmental care.

Originally from a small town in Pennsylvania, Walsh was inspired to pursue nursing by her mother, a lifelong home health nurse and healthcare leader. She earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and began her career at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center before spending several years as a travel nurse. Exposure to nurse practitioners during that time led her to complete her Family Nurse Practitioner degree through Chamberlain University.

Walsh began her nurse practitioner career in gastroenterology before transitioning to rheumatology during the COVID-19 era, where she worked extensively with patients managing chronic and autoimmune conditions. “With rheumatology, it would be months before you would know if someone was getting better,” Walsh said. “In urgent care, you can give people an answer and try to help them as quickly as possible, and that really drew me in.”

Outside of work, Walsh enjoys hiking, backpacking, paddleboarding, and skiing, and volunteers with the U.S. Forest Service’s Desolation Wilderness team. She values helping patients feel informed and confident in their care, especially those who may be unfamiliar with or hesitant about seeing nurse practitioners.

We are excited to welcome Leah Walsh, APRN, to our Urgent Care Ironwood team in Minden. Ironwood Urgent Care is open 8AM-7PM Monday through Friday and 8AM-5PM on Saturday.
