Katherine Holley, RN, began her medical career on the ranch. “When I became a phlebotomist, I realized that I had done a lot of similar work on the animals. There’s a lot more science to treating people though,” laughed Katie. After exactly one year as a registered nurse with Carson Valley Health, Katie is no longer considered a new nurse graduate and has proven herself to be a valued addition to the Medical Surgical unit team.
The DAISY nomination came from the wife of a patient treated by Katie. The patient was rushed to the ER and then admitted to the hospital to ensure he was comfortable as he took his last breath. Katie checked on the couple, who had been married for 54 years, ensuring they had everything they needed and that the patient was free from pain. Support meant the world to the patient’s’ wife. “If people would be like Katie, this place would be a better world to live in.”
Melissa Lynam, Director of Nursing says of Katie, “She has been a phenomenal addition, and patients love her. We received many heartfelt DAISY nominations, and Katie is a very deserving recipient.”
Nurse Holley won the Carson Valley Health summer 2025 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing. The DAISY Award is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses around the world for the care and kindness they provide.
