Carson Valley Health is pleased to welcome Katherine “Katie” Mauldin, Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C), to its Urgent Care team. She brings a diverse background in emergency medicine, outpatient procedural care, and international medical volunteer work.
After earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in Spanish and Sociology, Mauldin completed her Master’s degree in Sociology, before completing her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Katie became an Advanced EMT and worked as an Emergency Department Technician at Saint Mary’s ER for 7 years as well as worked as an AEMT at RAMPART medical tent at Burning Man. “I like environments where you have to think on your feet.” She said. “Whether it’s a hospital in Nepal or a first aid tent, you’re still just trying to take care of people with what you have in front of you.”
Katie has dedicated her time volunteering at Kanti Children’s Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, in the child psychiatry outpatient clinic and pediatric oncology inpatient clinic, as well as in community health, assisting with child vaccination and hemoglobin checks at Buena Vista Clinic in Cusco, Peru, both with Volunteering Solutions. Although she loved being an EMT/ED Technician, Katie wanted to do more to help her patients. She returned to school and earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from UNR in 2021. She values the Physician Assistant profession for its flexibility and commitment to lifelong learning. “You’re not locked into one specialty; you can keep growing as medicine changes,” she said.
Outside of work, she enjoys geocaching, hiking, and traveling. She combines her love of exploration with community impact through park cleanups, supporting vaccination clinics, student outreach, and community health initiatives closer to home.
We are excited to welcome Katherine Mauldin, PA-C, to our Urgent Care Ironwood team in Minden. Urgent Care is open 8AM-7PM Monday through Friday, 9AM-5PM on Saturday, and walk-ins are always welcome.
