Joseph “Joey” Pollino, PA-C, is a nationally certified physician associate at Carson Valley Health, where he delivers primary care with a mission rooted in clinical excellence and systemic advocacy. Joey strives to build relationships based on trust to empower his patients to manage chronic health problems and live their highest quality of life.
His journey to clinical practice was forged on the front lines of emergency medicine. Before joining CVH in January 2020, Joey spent years serving as a Deputy Coroner, Firefighter/EMT, an Emergency Department Technician. This unique background, particularly his work in medicolegal death investigation, provided him with an unfiltered view of the gaps in the healthcare system and a profound sense of empathy that now defines his approach to patient care.
Joey’s academic career is marked by leadership and distinction. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine – MEDEX Northwest in 2019, where he maintained a position on the Dean’s List for every quarter attended and had the honor of delivering the 2019 commencement speech. In 2017, he was one of only six students selected for the University of Washington Homecoming Court, a merit-based honor recognizing students who exemplify the “Husky Spirit” through academic excellence, leadership, and a deep commitment to community service.
Since arriving at CVH, Joey has established a robust primary care practice. Beyond the exam room, he is a dedicated Provider Mentor and has served on both the Medical Executive and Patient Safety Committees, where he works to improve the patient experience at a structural level.
Joey has also established himself as a prominent healthcare advocate and columnist. Driven by the belief that clinicians must be a voice for their patients in the national conversation, his insights on healthcare equity and insurance reform have been featured in major publications such as the LA Times and NBC News. Whether he is treating a neighbor in the clinic or advocating for reform on a larger stage, his focus remains on ensuring that high-quality, equitable care is a standard for everyone.
Joey lives in the Carson Valley with his wife, Maria, and their French Bulldog, Henry. A self-described “foodie” who enjoys traveling and game nights, Joey is also an avid outdoorsman who takes full advantage of the region’s landscape through backcountry snowboarding, hiking, hunting, and fishing.
